Japanese Curriculum

Our Japanese curriculum is designed with many factors in mind. We have the opportunity to work hand in hand with the educators at Jingumae Elementary School and use the same textbooks which they use and latest resources to keep up to date with our materials. Furthermore, our Japanese specialist is well-knowledged in the latest policies, research, and the methodologies of the national curriculum. She has been involved in professional development workshops and conferences for Japanese instructors of international schools in Japan and has been trained alongside teachers of Japanese public schools, allowing her to become connected to mentors, colleagues, and experts of Japanese language education.

At Shinagawa International School (SIS), we strive to deliver a Japanese curriculum that supports and challenges students of all levels of ability by differentiating our lesson activities and individualising the tasks. We offer two Japanese language learning groups: the Kokugo Group, for students who are native speakers of Japanese, and the JSL (Japanese as a Second Language) Group. The Kokugo Group follows the exact national curriculum and learning objectives that are utilized in Japanese public schools. Instruction for JSL students is flexible. Parents of JSL students may discuss with our Japanese specialist on specific learning goals that they would like for their child to achieve by the end of the school year.
